Skills used at work

    Connect to your Industry.

Do you want to be part of a team transforming the way in which the next generation of public sector services are designed and delivered? If so, then this may be the job for you.

Increasing disruption in the business and technology environments has created an urgent need for our clients to adapt their business models and reimagine their operations so they are configured for success in the future.

Using our deep sector and technical expertise, we transform our Public Sector clients' core business and operations, helping them to prepare for growth, adapt to policy change, design improved citizen facing services, embrace the digital agenda, address their sustainability challenges and maximize operational efficiency. We enable organisations to implement their corporate strategy, accomplish their business objectives in a constantly changing environment, and deliver future-ready solutions – without ever losing sight of the people our clients are there to serve. We focus on the full life cycle of transformation: from operating model design through to operations transformation, including process reengineering, business analysis, operational performance improvement and service design.

At Deloitte, we offer a unique and exceptional career experience to inspire and empower talent like you to make an impact that matters for our clients, people and community. From day one at our firm, practitioners become part of our community. We are always looking for people with the relentless energy to push themselves further, and to find new avenues and unique ways to reach our shared goals.

Our Public Sector Operations unit sits within the Business Operations service line. It will enable you to work with the latest technologies, as part of a team helping organisations transform their core business capabilities. Enabled by digital transformation involving on-premise systems, Cloud technology, or custom-developed solutions (to name just a few), your expertise will help clients deliver continuous improvement and innovation, from initial design right through to implementation and optimization.

We also encourage consideration of flexible ways of working, both formal and informal arrangements that allow for the best outcomes for our people and our clients. If this opportunity is of interest to you with some flexibility, please do discuss with us.

Connect to your career at Deloitte.

Deloitte drives progress. Using our vast range of expertise, that covers audit, risk advisory, and consulting services across tax, legal, business, technology and corporate finance, we help our clients become leaders wherever they choose to compete. To do this, we invest in outstanding people. We build teams of future thinkers, with diverse talents and backgrounds, and empower them all to reach for and achieve more.

What brings us all together at Deloitte? It's how we approach the thousands of decisions we make every day. How we behave, our beliefs and our attitudes. In other words: our values. Whatever we do, wherever we are in the world, we lead the way, serve with integrity, take care of each other, foster inclusion, and collaborate for measurable impact. These five shared values lead every decision we make and action we take, guiding us to deliver impact how and where it matters most.

    Connect to your opportunity.

While all consultants develop specialised knowledge as they progress within Deloitte, most are initially broad in their focus, meaning they do not need specific industry or functional expertise to be successful. For Managers who join as experienced professionals, this can mean building on previous knowledge or developing experience in an area that is completely new. We work across the Public Sector in Scotland, notably central government, transport, security and justice, health, and education – providing opportunities to work on the most transformational programmes in Scotland.

As a Manager in this practice, you will have the opportunity to be a future leader internally within Deloitte and in our client's eyes. You will have the chance to develop your skills in managing outputs, people, risks and budgets. You will take on responsibility as part of a diverse team within an inclusive team culture where people are recognised for their contribution. In addition, this role will allow you to be creative in developing client solutions.

To be successful in this role you will work as part of a team of industry specialists providing consulting services to major Public Sector clients, so you'll quickly build upon your existing knowledge, to become an expert in your field.

As a Manager, your responsibilities will include:

    • Owning and independently managing the end-to-end responsibility for the delivery of an engagement or major workstream – including developing work plans for engagements, proactively identifying and managing strategic risks, leading and supporting team members – to enable clients to achieve new performance highs.
    • Managing the quality of team outputs presented for senior-level review (Deloitte & client)
    • Managing and leading teams to deliver operations transformation for clients, often driven by new digital capabilities and services, in line with client net zero and sustainability ambitions.
    • Building on your leadership skills and leveraging your interest to inspire others, nurture strong relationships, and create a true followership.
    • Understanding and anticipating client needs based on a strong understanding of the Public Sector, developing strong client relationships.
    • Working with a range of stakeholders across all levels – both internally within Deloitte and in client organisations
    • Managing and coaching junior project members, supporting their wellbeing, development and career trajectory (c.5-7)
    • Contributing to and leading on business development and practice management activity, in conjunction with more senior team members
    • Proactively driving internal practice development by participating in proposition and methodology development and supporting knowledge capture and sharing

At Deloitte, we encourage you to be yourself, and we give you the freedom to contribute creatively while you also learn, develop and make your mark. You will have the opportunity to work across a range of projects, building your skills and experience on the job. You will also experience the breadth of what Deloitte offers, working with colleagues across a range of disciplines and drawing on our market leading methods, and our global assets and tools.

You will have a support system of career development advisors, the guidance of project leaders, and partnership with your colleagues and teammates at every turn. You will benefit from our global scale and capability, as well as from the speed and nimbleness of our close-knit teams. Life is not all project work, of course.
