    At Ocado Logistics, our teams are putting the world's retailers online using the cloud, robotics, AI, and IoT. We provide services to partner clients globally via our innovative advanced robotics technology, known as the Ocado Smart Platform ("OSP"), this drives our highly automated, multi-million pound Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs). In our CFCs - together with the proprietary software applications - we operate a world-class online grocery business that automates the single pick of products, ready for your online delivery.     About the role

    We are looking for proactive, energetic and enthusiastic Warehouse Operations Managers to work on Night shifts at our site in Erith; Kent. Our Operations Managers lead the business unit teams in successfully operating and optimising Ocado's platforms to deliver maximum client and customer value. They are key to the bottom line performance of the operating region and driving a positive employee experience. Accountable to the Senior Operations Manager for their personal and team performance, Operations Managers lead and motivate, to drive and develop all aspects of business unit activities on site and on the road. Living and breathing our 5 Pillars; Safety, People, Customer, Delivery, Cost. Operations Managers provide motivation and drive excellence in all that we do. It is the responsibility of the Operations Managers to effectively plan resource in line with budgets and business objectives.

    Duties will include but are not restricted to:

    • Lead, motivate and support large teams within time-sensitive and demanding operational environments
    • Contribute to setting the site and regional strategies
    • Lead the operation and identify innovative ways in which to serve our customers and conduct our business
    • Manage your team's resource level, and prepare and justify budgets and plans against expected volumes
    • Communicate effectively to your team, informing of key business results, continuous improvement initiatives, and important messages regarding process, people and Health and Safety
    • Work closely with other support teams (Agency partners, HR, Planning, Engineering, Facilities and Safety Team) to achieve Site and Operations network targets.
    • Continuously encourage self-improvement, training and development of your teams to support succession planning
    • Champion the process of continuous improvement, guiding your team in delivering initiatives to make our customer experience even better
    • Challenge and amend performance metrics to deliver improvements to productivity and standards
    • Ensure food safety mechanisms that protect product quality are adhered to
    • Provide comprehensive handovers to subsequent managers; presenting operating highlights, risks and opportunities

    The Night shift vacancy for this role equates to 48 hours per week on 12 hour shifts starting at 17:30 on an any 4 shifts from 7 including regular weekend work. We do also have the occasional cross over shift, where a fifth shift is required, this is roughly once each month. Please note, this role will involve standing and walking for extended periods, lifting objects weighing up to 30kg (periodically) and to work within temperature critical environments ranging from 30c to -30c.

    About you

    Naturally you are an excellent communicator and have good numerical skills, both verbal and written. You thrive working in an KPI driven environment and are quick thinking so can react to changing situations. You will also have experience in leading large and diverse teams in a fast paced environment. Passion for developing people with a proven track record of spotting and nurturing talent demonstrable through formal talent mapping and succession planning. High levels of PC/Microsoft package literacy, as well as experience and knowledge of best practice Health & Safety ways of working are a must for this role. As well as a sincere bias for action and be passionate about achieving results and driving production through efficiency and process improvement and an ability to demonstrate effective problem-solving and analytical capability to influence business and technical audiences.

    Previous experience in a 24/7 warehouse or logistics environment on a similar scale, working knowledge of computerised warehouse management systems; previous experience working with all or parts of Google's suite and a track record of successfully working with budgets are also highly desirable.
