    Job description

    The HSBC Global Legal function plays an important role in protecting the Group's reputation by helping to future-proof the organisation through robust legal risk and issue advisory. The team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.

    The Senior Legal Counsel/ Associate General Counsel will provide legal support for HSBC's Global Payment Solutions (GPS) business, supporting cash management, payments and liquidity, advising upon and assisting in the implementation of legislation, regulations and best practice applicable to the GPS business and ensuring legal risks are well managed.

    In this role you will be responsible for:

    • Providing prompt, commercial, practical and high-quality complex and or specialised legal advice to GPS stakeholders, advising the business promptly of material legal developments and their implications

    • Ensuring Deputy General Counsel and Managing Associate General Counsel – HSBC GPS are fully briefed on major issues arising in relevant business area and major legislative changes in area of expertise

    • Recommending selection and supervising panel law firms and other relevant external parties

    • Providing support for issues arising on GPS product suite (cash management (including paper, cards and electronic), payments and liquidity)

    • Supporting critical projects impacting GPS (recent examples being Brexit and CRDVI)

    • Supporting the implementation of regulatory change and considering ongoing regulatory requirements

    • Partnering with the business in negotiating strategic Client agreements

    • Sitting on various committees and working groups

    Requirements

    To be successful in this role you will have the following skills:

    • Qualified Lawyer

    • Experience in advising on Liquidity, Cash Management and Payments

    • Lateral thinking/problem solving ability

    • The ability to deal with new and unexpected situations

    • Ability to prioritize workloads in terms of legal risk and commercial considerations

    This role is based at London, 8 Canada Square or Birmingham but we work in a hybrid way.
