Responsibilities

  • The BAE Systems Hawk Mk167 Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI) will be responsible for providing and supporting the delivery of live flying training instruction to Qatari Emiri Air Force (QEAF) and RAF ab initio pilot trainees, instructors and refresher pilots on the Hawk Mk167 at RAF Leeming. The role may also include the delivery of training to Weapons Systems Officer (WSO) trainees. As an experienced pilot and instructor, they will be expected to support the supervision of trainee pilots and instructors and perform additional duties such as Duty Pilot, Authorising Officer, Executive Flying Supervisor and conduct Maintenance Test Flights, as directed by Officer Commanding (OC) 11 Squadron (Sqn) QEAF and as agreed by the BAE Systems Crew Training Post Holder or Accountable Manager (Military Flying) as required.
  • QFI for the delivery of Hawk Mk167 academic, synthetic and live training to pilot trainees, WSO trainees, refresher trainees and instructor trainees
  • Hawk Mk167 training SME
  • Establish an effective working relationship with key stakeholders: QEAF, RAF, UK MOD teams, export user community, engineering teams and contract owners
  • Engineering management and support of the capture of aircrew training requirements, to include the customer's concept of operations, operational environment and training aspirations and preferences
  • Support the development of design concepts through iterative evaluation of synthetic and live training devices
  • Maintenance of Hawk Mk167 currency as a QFI and Pilot

    Your skills and experiences:

    Essential:

    • Ex-RAF/RN fast jest pilot, QFI and supervisor
    • Minimum of 500 hours on fast jet aircraft
    • Experience of the management of training and operational activities
    • Extensive knowledge and experience of the use of MS Office and related software
    • Understanding of the BAES and RAF Flight Safety system and risk management processes
    • Extensive experience in the management of staff, covering professional development reviews, objective setting, management of discipline and conflict resolution, ethics and diversity and inclusivity, skills development and mentoring

    Desirable:

    • A2 Category QFI
    • Hawk instructional experience within the last year
    • Extensive knowledge and experience in the application of industry and customer training techniques for aircrew training.
    • Extensive knowledge and experience of managing internal and external organisations in the delivery of programmes within budget, timescale and quality targets
