    What you'll be doing:

    • Setting sub-system requirements to meet whole boat naval shock requirements
    • Managing verification, validation (V&V) and qualification evidence to ensure sub-systems meet shock requirements
    • Developing design justification documentation
    • Undertaking assessments of structures and equipment subjected to naval shock load cases
    • Providing design guidance at design reviews with respect to naval shock load cases
    • Undertaking peer review checking activities and developing junior engineers
    • Managing physical shock test activities

    Your skills and experiences:

    • Mechanical Engineering Degree (or STEM degree)
    • Experience of undertaking structural design calculations (i.e. bolted joints / bending moment / shear stress)
    • Understanding of material strength properties and limits (elastic and plastic properties)
    • Awareness of setting functional requirements and managing verification, validation and qualification evidence

    The Shock and Dynamics team:

    You will be joining an enthusiastic team of 10 members and have an opportunity to liaise with a wide range of stakeholders across multiple disciplines. The position will give you a great satisfaction of being a part of the team, playing a significant role in every element of submarine design.

    As a Principal Engineer within the Shock and Dynamics department, you will ensure structures and equipment are verified against naval shock requirements. You will set requirements for sub systems to ensure overall boat requirements are met. You will manage sub-system maturity in relation to naval shock and will provide design guidance to both internal and external stakeholders at design reviews. You will also support the development of junior engineers within the team.
