Our Risk and Compliance function has a critical role to play in supporting, challenging and advising across all areas of the business through establishing policy, monitoring profiles, and identifying and managing forward-looking risk and compliance. We focus on creating an environment that encourages our people to speak up and do the right thing, as well as protecting our customers, the organisation and the integrity of the financial markets in which we operate. Already an industry-leader in many respects, we want to continue setting standards and evolving to respond to strategic changes.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution

    Role purpose:

Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The function actively manages a varied and dynamic range of financial and non-financial risk types.

Global Risk Analytics (GRA) plays a vital role in the measurement and assessment of these risks for the bank covering the particularly the Wholesale Credit Risk. We develop sophisticated models to provide analytical solutions and tools to quantify key risk metrics used to inform business decisions and meet regulatory and financial reporting obligations.

Global Large Corporate and Products (GLC&P) portfolios are a key part of HSBC's wholesale credit portfolios. The role of Head of GLC&P portfolios of Group Risk Analytics (GRA) has responsibility of all wholesale credit risk models, as well oversight of all model risk-related controls and governance for models on the GLC&P portfolios. This includes the GLCS models, the Global Products models such as Aircraft, Shipping, Project Finance and Regulatory Slotting approaches used in various parts of the Group.

The purpose of this role is:

    • Provide strategic and technical leadership over modelling projects across all wholesale credit modelling types, i.e. IRB, IFRS9, Stress Testing and credit decisioning on the GLC&P portfolios where applicable.
    • Design, build and maintain the appropriate Reference Data Set (RDS) associated with the GLC&P portfolios with the appropriate delivery teams (FE, Risk IT, DAO and related business teams).
    • Contribute and/or coordinate input from the UK – GRA and non-GRA functions – into global, model-related initiatives to support HSBC's effort to promote consistent modelling practices.
    • Management and facilitation of communication between the GRA modelling community and its stakeholder, including Global Banking, Commercial Banking, Model Risk Management, Independent Model Review, Finance, and DAO.

Provide assurance and quality control to stakeholders that GRA model developments and other model-related projects comply with both regulatory and internal requirements, such as the model risk policies as defined by MRM and effective resolution of the IMR findings on the GRA models.

    • Represent GRA on the appropriate model governance committees and forum such as appropriate MOF, MRC and RMM when needed and contribute, challenge and advise effectively including internal committees/forums and support the provision of transparent and insightful feedback

    Requirements

To be successful in this role you should

    • Expertise in quantitative analytics and use of sophisticated tools for numerical analysis and computer programming (e.g. R/Python/Matlab/SAS). Additionally, knowledge of Cloud technologies (AWS, GCP) would be ideal.
    • Knowledge of credit risk and portfolio management, wholesale credit & lending business and products
    • Strong understanding of Wholesale credit risk parameter modelling and their use in capital, ECL projections and Stress Testing.
    • Demonstrable experience in execution of modelling projects aligned with regulatory expectations and industry best practices with a solid understanding of model risk, models governance and controls
    • Outstanding relationship management and influencing skills with experience of successful collaboration with non-quantitative stakeholders.
    • Relevant professional work experience in a bank, rating agency, consultancy or advisory firm and ability to lead and coach analytics teams.
    • Track record of managing and successfully delivering within agreed time scales, in liaison with all relevant stakeholders: model owners, credit, business, IT, senior management and regulators.
    • Open personality with highly effective communication skills, build and manage colleague and key stakeholder relationships in an international team.

This role is hybrid working with a base at Canada Square, London.
