    Who are you?

    You are a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer with an unwavering commitment to precision. You possess hands-on engineering experience and a deep understanding of the tools and processes involved in creating your designs. You're not afraid to get your hands dirty during installation and testing, refining your designs until they reach perfection. Your expertise extends to designing for various production processes, including machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, injection moulding, additive manufacture. While our team operates with flexibility, you appreciate the importance of adhering to processes where necessary – including design reviews, FMEAs, and change management protocols, all of which are integral parts of our team's operations.

    One thing is for sure, as an Engineer at Ocado, you will be involved at any stage of the product development lifecycle, from translating requirements, through concept generation, detail design and manufacturer support, all the way through to design updates and enhancements.

    Responsibilities

    • You'll play a pivotal role in shaping the technology, responsible for making technical decisions and ensuring successful mechanical development of automation equipment from inception to launch, including post-launch support.
    • Integrating engineering principles and product development expertise with your own experiences, you'll create solutions that are robust and meet all requirements.
    • Recognized as a respected authority in mechanical engineering, you'll make informed judgments while balancing the demands of tight deadlines.
    • Additionally, you'll actively participate in projects, demonstrating your proficiency in taking a quick, efficient, and collaborative approach – designing, prototyping, testing, and refining.
    • You'll optimise existing hardware designs for efficiency and cost-effectiveness, and pioneer new product designs from scratch.
    • In this role, you'll become a subject matter expert, identifying opportunities for enhancements and innovative products.

    Experience required:

    What are we looking for?

    • Degree or apprenticeship in Engineering or Product Design, or equivalent experience gathered professionally or otherwise
    • Strong evidence of a collaborative approach to problem solving, and ability to function effectively in a team environment
    • Self-driven, and proactive in identifying and resolving issues independently
    • Proven experience in the field of automation or robotics
    • Demonstrable experience in rapid prototyping as well as putting products into low medium and high volume production.
    • Experience in mentoring and guiding junior engineers
    • Design for manufacture and assembly
    • Full product lifecycle support, from concept development to implementation, including high-volume manufacture
    • Extensive CAD experience, ideally in SolidWorks although other CAD packages would be considered.

    Bonus points for:

    • Hands-on experience in fabrication, machining, or rapid prototyping
    • Experience in FEA, modal analysis, or topology optimisation
