We’re Ocado Group - a global, technology business redefining ecommerce, fulfilment and logistics in online grocery and beyond. Our market-leading, proprietary technology will enable our partners to win in their markets, develop a competitive advantage and offer an unparalleled customer proposition.  Our mission is simple — to change the way the world shops for good.  Our heritage as the UK’s largest pure-play online grocer through Ocado Retail LTD ( a 50:50 joint venture with M&S), and expertise in high-performing logistics and fulfilment through Ocado Logistics, has equipped us with technology innovation, expertise and operational know-how to build and innovate the Ocado Smart Platform (OSP). OSP is the world’s leading ecommerce, fulfilment and logistics platform designed for the unique demands of online grocery.  Now, with Ocado Intelligent Automation (OIA), our unparalleled experience and proven automated retrieval and storage technology is helping businesses outside of online grocery future-proof their fulfilment operations.

Our Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS) teams are at the cutting-edge of our technology engineering business. From the design and manufacture of the most state-of-the-art products in the business, to their delivery into our multi-million pound Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs) across the globe, our bespoke electrical and mechanical development projects are pushing the boundaries of innovation and automation.

This role sits within the Bot Kinetics Systems team, who are responsible for designing, developing and supporting innovative engineering solutions for our fleet of autonomous bots. We're looking for outstanding, enthusiastic engineers to join us, at the start of what promises to be an exciting, challenging push to engineer 100% automated, completely unmanned grocery fulfilment centres.

The Bot Kinetics Systems team currently has an exciting opportunity for an innovative Mechanical Design Engineer to join them to provide technical decision-making and successful mechanical development of automation equipment from conception to launch including post launch upgrades.

You will combine the principles of engineering and product development with your own experience to ensure solutions are robust and meet all requirements, and will be regarded as a credible mechanical authority who makes sound engineering judgements which are balanced with the need to meet tight deadlines. Additionally, you will act as a key support by taking a hands-on role in projects.

One thing is for sure, as an Engineer at Ocado, you will be involved at any stage of the product development lifecycle, from translating requirements, through concept generation, detail design and manufacturer support, all the way through to design updates and enhancements.

Experience required:

You will have:

  • A proven track record of designing complex electromechanical automation systems or machines for high volume production and high reliability.
  • Familiar with designing for manufacture in volumes up to 20K P/A.
