Responsibilities

  • Planning and implementing changes to the components of test and live messaging infrastructure, from request for change or project initiation through to deployment
  • Advising and recommending technical solutions based on experience and industry knowledge, focusing on requirements, and planning to meet client needs
  • Designing and implementing monitoring solutions, focusing on proactive issues and problems detection and prevention
  • Driving, maintaining and enhancing systems/infrastructure components and services, maximizing use of available resources, ensuring infrastructure is standard compliant
  • Reacting quickly to test live system issues, and service problems to minimize downtime and restore service
  • Acting and leading as technical SME, providing advice and guidance to team and projects on technical matters
  • Participating in design reviews, script reviews and implementation
  • Being accountable for individual or team or department results, and for the impact of the results on functional activities, participating in overall departmental program planning

Senior Kafka Engineer

As a Barclays Senior Kafka Engineer, you will be dedicated to architecting and design, facilitating seamless consumption of Cloud and Middleware platform offerings. You will be part of a team of engineers with accountability for the engineering of the software components, including strategy, design, build, documentation, and testing. Working with your colleagues in the wider cloud and middleware team, you'll be bringing products to life as part of a modern developer focused experience for Messaging products.

What will you be doing?

What we're looking for:

• Experience of the architecture and deployment of high-performance Kafka clusters, focusing on scalability, reliability, and security

• Experience of the integration of Kraft Mutual TLS, JaaS and Kerberos authentication in Kafka setups, and development/maintenance of Kafka connectors, clusters and architectures

• Knowledge and experience of Kafka configurations for optimal performance

• Background in software development (Python, Go Lang, Java) and architectural design

Skills that will help you in the role:

• Extensive knowledge of Kafka and its ecosystem, including advanced features, security protocols, and connectors

• Significant experience infrastructure engineering, with expertise in architecture and design of Messaging Products

• Familiarity with IBM MQ, AMQ, Solace, and other messaging technologies is beneficial

Where will you be working?

You will be based in Radbroke Hall, Knutsford. The Barclays Technology Campus just outside Manchester is our Tech Command Centre and a vital strategic powerhouse behind our global operations. The campus is set in a 64-acre self-contained site, in a beautiful green environment and it offers unrivalled facilities for work and for play. We have an onsite gym, as well as outdoor tennis, football and cricket areas, as well as onsite restaurant and coffee shops.
