    Job Title: Software Engineer - Mainframe

    Salary: £45,954 - £51,060

    Location: Halifax

    Hours: Full time

    Working Pattern: Hybrid, 40% (or two days) in office.

    Working in one of our cross-disciplinary teams engineers will have the opportunity to develop their technical knowledge and understanding as well develop, practice and demonstrate the workplace skills and behaviours required for this job role. They will also join and attend Communities of Practice, Engineering Guilds and Working Groups to deliver peer-to-peer mentoring.

    You'll work in a highly collaborative way to drive efforts to create, build, support and improve our software, working in partnership with a range of teams encountering lots of exciting new challenges. You'll become a core contributor ensuring quality and engineering practices are followed in accordance with engineering transformation strategy.

    • You'll build relationships and work efficiently with others across a variety of domains, subject areas and locations.
    • Be passionate about technology and its application to real-world problems with strong Computer Science fundamentals.
    • You'll demonstrate design and UX sensibilities and have excellent communication skills with the ability to explain ideas and problems clearly to non-development colleagues and partners.
    • You'll build/maintain efficient and reusable systems, find and address application/performance issues, participate in design and code reviews.
    • You'll also identify general improvements and implement methodologies, collaborate with the product/design team to iterate the design function and implement the products and collaborate with Front-end and DevOps Engineers to build features and experiments.

    What you'll need

    • Mainframe Technical skills – COBOL, DB2, JCL, CICS, TSO/ISPF
    • Mainframe Tools – Endevor, BMC Catalog Manager, Abend-Aid, MainView
    • Experience in using modern dev tool (IDE) such as VSCode
    • CI/CD Tools - Jenkins (build scheduler)
    • Web services testing – Postman / SOAP UI
    • Software development lifecycle and methodologies
