Responsibilities

  • Helping to reduce Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) and improve stability
  • Driving Full Stack Observability throughout the department and role model how this can be used to achieve our objectives and reduce MTTR
  • Contributing to the establishment of a SRE practice/discipline and help to drive the agenda throughout the department whilst supporting the wider team objectives
  • Contributing to the adoption of Automation and help to role model how this can be used to drive efficiencies, consistency, reduce MTTR and achieve our objectives
  • Solving challenging and complex problems – preventing issues/problems before they happen to reduce customer or colleague impact
  • Contributing to company/team objectives and Compliance to audit regulatory and CSO Standards requirement
  • Driving technical excellence and accountability/ownership of the full stack that makes up our services.
  • Ensuring all application standard controls and requirements are being met and that any new services being brought to production have met the required level of standards and assurances

Production Engineer Analyst

Glasgow

As a Barclays Production Engineer Analyst, you will operate skills to collaborate across disciplines, applying software engineering principles to eliminate repeated manual effort (Toil) and create automated, scalable and reliable services. What will you be doing?

What we're looking for:

• Working knowledge of supporting and maintaining production environments with distributed systems and highly available services

• Working knowledge of IT Infrastructure components (such as Linux or Windows Server OS, MS SQL or Oracle Databases, Networks, Load Balancers, Storage)

• Understanding/awareness of Observability/Monitoring solutions (such as AppDynamics, Thousand Eyes, Splunk, ELK or similar)

• Degree in information system or computer science or any equivalent and basic ITIL knowledge and solid knowledge of supporting applications on Unix or windows platforms

Skills that will help you in the role:

• Working knowledge or an interest in modern programming languages like Java and Python, working in either a SRE or DevOps model, or an understanding of what it means

• Experience of working in either a SRE or DevOps model, however if you don't have experience but have a passion and a demonstrable understanding of what it means

• Solid grasp of CI/CD Pipelines and Repositories, for example Jenkins and GitHub and ability to construct SQL queries and interrogate databases

• Understanding of software skills such as design, development, maintenance, testing and software improvement – in an Investment Bank would be an advantage
