  • Supporting management of client relationships and in most cases being a key client contact on engagements

You will be working on high profile acquisitions, disposals and carve outs for prominent corporate businesses and private equity houses in the Consumer and/or Industrials sectors across a range of geographies and have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects within a highly commercial environment.

The fast-growing M&A Operations team focuses on operational aspects throughout the transaction lifecycle, including pre-deal operational due diligence, performance improvement evaluations, synergy and carve-out assessments, divestments, pre-deal full potential assessments and post-deal 100-day plans. The team comprises highly experienced practitioners with a background in operations management, transformation implementation and the operational elements of acquisitions and divestments and is a core part of Deloitte's market-leading M&A Transaction Services group. Collectively we are a group of over 600 professionals who provide M&A related expertise to corporate organisations, private equity houses and financial institutions. We are widely recognised as the most experienced, dedicated team in EMEA, supporting transactions across all industry sectors. Your role will be to provide operational M&A expertise to businesses in the Consumer and/or Industrials sectors. You will deliver services ranging across carve-out assessments, performance improvement evaluations, operational due diligence, 100-day planning and synergy development and review assignments.

Specific responsibilities for the Assistant Director include:

  • Providing Consumer and/or Industrials businesses with both buy- and sell-side transaction operational due diligence
  • Assisting these businesses in understanding the true operational capability of potential acquisition targets as well as existing owned businesses, feeding into their overall investment theses

Essential:

  • Experience of working in the M&A / deal lifecycle, specifically due diligence and / or operational performance improvement
  • Experience in the Consumer and/or Industrials sectors, including direct experience from working in a related role in industry
  • Experience from working in a related professional services role
  • Excellent financial analysis skills
  • Strong problem solving, business diagnostic and analytical skills including excellent Excel capabilities
  • A strong understanding of business operations
  • Experience of analysing and understanding financial statements particularly relating to operations and costs
  • Good organisational and administrative skills with the ability to prioritise effectively
  • A strong academic track record including excellent degree and A-level (or equivalent) results
  • Experience of operating with senior level stakeholders in the corporate and/or private equity industry
  • Ability to fluently communicate and present in both oral and written English
  • Strong commercial acumen and project management capability with a track record of successful delivery
  • Flexibility for international travel

Desirable:

  • Experience across the full spectrum of M&A operations services (operational due diligence, operational performance improvement, carve-outs and synergies)
  • Experience in business development, from opportunity identification to conversion into sales
  • Experience in coaching, mentoring or counselling colleagues
  • Experience in the Retail and/or Services sub-sectors
  • Capabilities in one or more of the manufacturing, production, logistics, customer services or planning functions, and/or core operations skills across the value chain
  • Advanced analytics e.g. PowerBI, complex modelling
