  • Role Title: Deputy Manager Reporting to: Nursery Manager ROLE OVERVIEW: • Working in partnership with the Nursery Manager to ensure the Nursery is well managed and all staff are adhering to policies, procedures and processes. • Responsible for the day-to-day running of the allocated Base Room. • Responsible for supervision of staff team within the allocated Base Room. • Deputises for the Nursery Manager in his/her absence. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: General Duties: 1. To oversee the efficient and safe running of the allocated Base Room and to provide support to other Room Leaders ensuring they too are managing their Base Rooms appropriately. 2. To provide guidance and leadership to other members of the team particularly with planning, welfare of children, safeguarding, health and safety and team work. 3. To assist in co-ordinating rotas, deployment, lunches etc whilst maintaining staff:child ratios at all times. 4. To undertake objective setting, annual appraisals and termly reviews in conjunction with the Nursery Manager. 5. To provide coaching, supervision and career guidance and advice to team members. 6. To contribute to the induction process for new and promoted staff. 7. To contribute to the settling-in process for new and transition children. 8. To develop strong partnerships with parents, colleagues, children and external support services. 9. To develop plans for base room and Nursery, staying abreast of changes in legislation and best practice. 10. To assist in the day to day operational running the Nursery whilst maintaining a strong focus on childcare in own base room – manages effectively the Nursery in the Nursery Manager’s absence. Self-Management: 11. Attends training courses to further personal development. 12. Performs any ad hoc duties as required. 13. Actively contributes and participates as part of the team, attending team meetings and other events. 14. Is mindful of personal safety and safety of colleagues. 15. Assists the Nursery Manager with initiatives that directly benefit the Nursery. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE: Essential to role Desirable to role • Minimum 2 years’ post qualification • Minimum Level III or equivalent • Relevant childcare qualifications in accordance with OFSTED guidelines • Thorough understanding and knowledge of legislation including EYFS • Empathetic, caring and friendly • A higher Early Year’s qualification or willing to study a management or leadership qualification • Experience of SEND • Enthusiastic, positive attitude • Patient • Adept at dealing with stress • Proven supervisory or leadership experience • Full understanding of health and safety requirements • Good understanding of ICT • Excellent planning and organisation skills
