Being a trusted advisor and building long-term relationships with such clients is key to being successful in this sector. By working closely with Partners, Directors and Associate Directors in the national practice, it will allow you to develop and learn how to build such relationships whilst enhancing your own personal portfolio and networks.

Whilst there is a national element to this role and the work can be undertaken remotely, the partner and directors who lead our regional hub are based in Scotland and so some travel to our Edinburgh or Glasgow office will be necessary. We are currently investing in our national FS tax practice as we are seeing strong market demand and need additional resource to maximise on the opportunity to grow our practice further.

Deloitte's Financial Services Business Tax team consists of a large team of well established tax specialists who work with a broad range of financial services businesses, from FTSE100/FTSE250 listed companies to mutual businesses to new start-ups. We work closely with our Financial Advisory, Consulting and Regulatory specialists together with teams across Europe and the wider world. A successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including:

  • M&A transactions
  • Cross-border reorganisations and other restructuring work
  • Advice on complex areas of tax law
  • Tax disputes and controversy
  • Compliance and reporting

Associate Directors own a portfolio of clients, steer client services and deliver innovative solutions by bringing together multi-disciplinary teams to tackle some of our most complex client challenges.

As an Associate Director you will develop relationships with your clients, actively contribute to the eminence of our practice by external knowledge sharing and invest time in business development.

You will be a role model to others and participate in an inclusive environment of team working where team members feel supported. You will also be supported in deepening your own technical specialism, widening your cross service line and industry or market knowledge, and continuing to develop your skills

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Ownership and development of existing client relationships, including cultivation of relationships based on referrals from other parts of the UK and global business.
  • Delivery of a broad range of advisory and compliance service to clients, in addition to developing junior team members
  • Tax advisory assignments
  • Advice to UK and international clients on structural and transactional tax issues
  • M&A support
  • Delivering tax compliance
  • Supporting statutory audits

Connect to your skills and professional experience

  • UK corporate tax experience gained from an accountancy/legal/advisory firm, from an in house role within a financial institution, or HMRC;
  • ICAEW, ICAS or CTA qualifications or equivalent;
  • Ability to integrate and work effectively within high performing teams;
  • Delegation and leadership skills, and an ability to be clear and concise with regards to instructing more junior teams around them;
  • High quality business writing and effective communication skills;
  • The ability to work closely with clients, applying practical and commercial concepts to technical work ;
  • Ability to effectively present to clients and internal teams;
  • Individual needs to be organised and self-motivated. Desirable
  • A good understanding of the financial services sector is desirable but not essential
