  • Ensure that assurance reviews are scoped effectively to cover the key risk and control areas for the UK ring-fenced bank, including leading and conducting targeted assurance reviews and deep dives of high risk end-to-end processes and metrics;
  • Work with each financial risk assurance team/utility to build out and maintain a comprehensive assurance plan for the UK ring-fenced bank.
  • Provide holistic reports for the UK CRO and governance committees on the UK ring-fenced bank financial risk and control profile.
  • Support the Risk Stewards and Assurance teams in each financial risk function, to optimise their target operating models, promoting and implementing synergies and efficiencies while securing an optimal and best in class control environment across the UK ring-fenced bank.
  • Track and monitor any UK ring-fenced bank impacting issues raised by the financial risk stewards and assurance activities to ensure that they are effectively mitigated within the required timescales, inputting your SME knowledge to proposed solutions and reporting and escalating any overdue items for management attention.

    We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Head of Financial Risk Steward Oversight and Assurance, HSBC UK Bank.

    Role Purpose

    Financial risk covers the people, process and systems failures that would lead to a Credit, Treasury and Traded risk impact or loss. The role would be a second line of defence role, supporting the HSBC UK CRO to discharge their SMR accountabilities for the oversight and management of these risks. The role would therefore be a formal SMR delegate for the UK CRO.

    The role purpose is to coordinate the Risk Stewardship oversight and related assurance activities for the UK ring-fenced bank across all of these risk types, ensuring that the UK has comprehensive coverage for all financial risk types and to provide the UK CRO with a holistic view of that stewardship and assurance activity and results. The stewardship and assurance models are being established by each financial risk function, and the role holder will therefore need to work within each operating model to ensure adequate coverage for the UK ring-fenced bank.

    The base location for this role is Birmingham.

    In this role, you will:

    Requirements

    To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

    • Demonstrable experience from a financial accountancy background with internal/external audit experience.
    • Relevant Financial risk management knowledge and experience working in multiple legal entities
    • Communication and interpersonal skills, including the capacity to articulate the case for risk management in the language of business.
    • Exposure to working with risk assurance teams to build out and maintain a comprehensive assurance plan.
    • Have an understanding and experience of the UK SMR regime
    • Experience of providing holistic reports senior executives/ governance committees on the risk and control profile.
