Responsibilities

  • To be a trusted adviser and partner to the business by providing (i) legal advice and risk management guidance to the DCM business, and (ii) hands on proactive transaction management services.
  • Building and maintaining positive and effective relationships and obtaining quotations from panel law firms and other third parties on transactions, ensuring approvals to appoint are in place.
  • Assisting the business to remain compliant with legal and regulatory risk management requirements set out in the Group Standards Manual, the Operational Risk Framework and Legal FIM, ensuring that the impact of regulatory and legislative developments is understood by the business and adequately reflected in documentation.
  • Proactively managing and leading transactions giving seamless support to DCM, enabling smooth execution and timely responses, coordinating the varied stakeholders, and positively demonstrating HSBC capabilities.
  • Assisting the DCM business with pitches, structuring, meeting with clients and the appointment and management of outside counsel as well as proactively ensuring the smooth running of each transaction through to the closing, ensuring that DCM Legal head and DCM leads are fully briefed on major issues arising in relevant business area.
  • Maintaining positive and professional working relationships with all team members within DCM, DCM Legal and Legal globally to ensure a healthy and inclusive culture
  • Helping to build and continue the co-ordination and promotion of initiatives that result in the sharing of legal knowledge and best practices across DCM Legal and the Regional / Global Legal Function
  • Delivering fair outcomes for our customers, ensuring own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets.

The team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.

    Role overview:

    To provide legal advice and transaction management execution services, guidance, and support to the Debt Capital Markets (DCM) business in Global Banking and Markets and in EMEA (including MENAT) to ensure that the HSBC Group's exposure to legal and reputational risk is appropriately managed and to ensure the smooth execution of DCM transactions.

    Requirements

    To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:

    • Qualified lawyer with relevant post qualification experience in debt capital markets and Islamic finance, with a focus on UK, European and MENAT transactions and other emerging markets and liability management.

    • Experienced and confident lawyer able to identify and manage legal and reputation risk. The practitioner should expect to manage a large volume of transactions and may be dealing with a wide range of issues, from complex legal matters to administrative.

    • English law qualified.

    • Up-to-date knowledge of legal and regulatory developments in own industry sector and familiarity with ICMA guidelines, ESMA, EU, FCA, AAOIFI standards and other industry body terms and documents

    • Able to work in a team but also able to manage own workload independently.

    • Must be a native English speaker. German, Italian, Spanish and French languages a plus but not necessary

    • Stamina, organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure.

    This role is London, 8 Canada Square based but we working in a hybrid way.
