    Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria – We also offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements with satellite offices in Frimley, Filton, Weymouth, Portsmouth and also home working. Please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

    What you'll be doing:

    • Provide subject matter expert advice to BAE Systems Submarines as part of the design authority, for all aspects of non-metallic material safety assessments
    • Steer research and development opportunities for Non-Metallic Materials
    • Lead working groups within both the immediate business unit and the wider enterprise
    • Track external non-metallic material developments and identify potential business applications

    Your skills and experiences:

    • Qualified to degree level (BEng/BSc) in either polymer, chemistry or a material related science/engineering based discipline
    • Attained C Eng or CSci
    • Detailed SME level knowledge and understanding of Non-Metallic Material properties and failure modes
    • Detailed understanding of the capability and use of test equipment used within Materials Technology Centre

    The Non Metallics team:

    You will be working alongside other industry leading experts to develop holistic solutions and strategies for material applications in the design of Nuclear Submarines. The team play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety of submarines which requires involvement in all aspects of the design. We work end to end across the submarine build program from the selection and purchase of materials through to final installation and inspection. This creates opportunities to build a full and detailed understanding of the programs and to support the business with varied problem solving.
