    The team you'll work with:

    The HSBC Innovation Bank UK, Credit Risk team is a Second Line of Defence (SLOD) team responsible for the credit risk management of the bank's portfolio including identifying, monitoring and appropriately escalating credit risk issues within the bank. The Senior Associate will work with senior members of the Credit Risk Portfolio Management team in the understanding and implementation of key frameworks in addition to management of data and stakeholder engagement within the Innovation Bank and Group.

    You will be responsible for the development of internal credit risk reporting for Committee meetings, highlighting and discussing trends in the credit risk portfolio and close monitoring of key internal credit risk metrics.

    What can you expected to be doing?

    The remit of the HSBC Innovation Banking UK Credit Risk Management team is broad and far reaching within the bank. Below are some examples of the type of work you may be involved with.

    • Credit Portfolio Analysis – The team is responsible for understanding what is driving changes in the credit risk of the portfolio and producing management information reflective of these trends for discussion at monthly Credit Risk Committee meetings.
    • Credit Risk Appetite - The team undertakes analysis to support the setting of thresholds for Risk Appetite, which are agreed with Executive and Board committees. The team is responsible for monitoring the credit portfolio to ensure key risk metrics remain within agreed thresholds and where breaches in risk appetite occur these are well understood and escalated in a timely manner.
    • Expected Credit Loss (ECL) and Capital – The team is integral to the determination of ECL for the portfolio. This includes providing guidance on IFRS9 and assessing ECL calculations. The team is heavily involved in both local HSBC Innovation Bank UK IFRS9 governance and HSBC regional governance. The team is also at the forefront of capital optimisation initiatives for the portfolio, including Basel 3.1 regulations.
    • Credit Risk Policy – The team is responsible for HSBC Innovation Banking Credit Risk Policy. This includes periodic updates, providing training and liaising with HSBC Group counterparts. The team is heavily involved in the determination of Credit Risk Rating (CRR) methodologies for the portfolio.
    • Committee Engagement – The team is a regular contributor to various committees in HSBC Innovation Banking UK, including the Board Risk Committee, the Executive Risk Management Meeting and the Executive Credit Risk Committee amongst others.
    • Risk Infrastructure - Work with other team members in the implementation of the HSBC Innovation Banking UK Risk Management Framework. Being point of contact and working with the First Line of Defence (FLOD) to enable credit risk framework is well understood and new processes/controls have been appropriately reviewed and challenged.

    Requirements

    Prior experience of working within a credit risk environment is preferable but a good attitude and enthusiasm are key. Some of the competencies that would be encouraged include:

    • Data Manipulation / Presentation - Familiarity with tools such as Excel and PowerPoint together with an ability to identify and effectively communicate key issues.
    • Stakeholder Engagement - Ability to articulate and present issues and concepts with various levels of management.
    • Project Management – Ability to structure and effectively manage projects with multiple work-streams.
    • Independent Working – Ability to ‘run with' tasks and prioritise work.
    • Subject Matter – Familiarity with general credit risk concepts including IFRS9 Expected Credit Loss, Basel Capital Requirement Regulations or credit risk rating methodologies would be helpful.
