Responsibilities

  • Taking responsibility for the safety of the employees working within the Setter function in the manufacturing area
  • Maintaining the quality standards within the Toolroom to satisfy customer needs and requirements at all times
  • Ensuring that all tooling and machine parts produced in the Toolroom are to the highest standard in accordance with customer requirements
  • Utilising a proactive approach to increasing our in-house tooling capability – with the intention of reducing our dependence on sub-contracted machining work
  • Making certain that the Toolroom orders are met through consistent planning, materials management, and organisation of resource requirements, to ensure their efficient use
  • Having overall responsibility for people performance within the Setter Manufacturing team, including discipline, development, supervision, time management, and attendance
  • Offering internal customers costing based on individual requirements whilst utilising our CNC machinery

    What you'll be doing:

    Your skills and experiences:

    Essential:

    • Time served 3–4-year machining apprenticeship
    • In-depth knowledge of machining
    • Experience in estimations – preparing accurate cost estimates/quotes, and compiling bids

    Desirable:

    • Knowledge of a variety of material properties
    • Experience of dealing with local steel stockholders
    • Line management experience

    The Setter Manufacturing team:

    You would be joining a large team of experienced individuals, of which you would have direct responsibility for a group of around 10, and you would report directly into the Manufacturing Manager. BAE Systems Washington are on a mission to develop their internal tooling capabilities to be more reactive. You will get the chance to work alongside a range of internal teams including Manufacturing Engineers, the Forge team, Engineering and Quality to understand the requirements of the business.
