Responsibilities

  • As Technical Authority and Responsible Person for Process Safety at the R&D site, within GSK's Engineering & Statutory Duty Holder Framework, champion a consistent approach to execution of relevant assessments, manage the lifecycle of re-evaluations, and monitor compliance to the Process Safety Management program across the site, inclusive of infrastructure and R&D systems.
  • Build relationships with key R&D customers and our contracted Service Partners to identify, assess, and select appropriate controls to prevent major accident hazard events at the R&D site.
  • Build relationships with our contracted Service Partners who run facility services on site and execute management monitoring activities to ensure EHS critical maintenance and functional testing of EHS critical controls are conducted with an appropriate level of rigor in accordance with an agreed schedule.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve safety and hierarchy of controls. Facilitate frequent walkthroughs (i.e., GEMBA) within the facilities involving SMEs in site operations, R&D business, and service partners.
  • Develop and implement process safety improvements and equipment upgrades, utilizing the proper change control method and providing documentation of change, to implement engineered controls and decrease likelihood of major accident hazard consequences.
  • Technical engineering representative on capital projects to ensure projects with process safety equipment/systems in scope are designed, modified, and delivered in accordance with external and internal GSK engineering/EHS standards.

    Process Safety Engineer

    GSC R&D Engineering Services provides Facilities Management and Capital Projects delivery for Technical R&D sites within GSC's Engineering and EHS organization.

    The primary purpose of the Process Safety Engineer role is to provide on-going engineering support for managing the identification, assessment, and selection of controls to prevent major accident hazard events across the R&D site (inclusive of infrastructure and R&D systems). The role will manage consistent execution and ensure compliance with the Process Safety program across the site through provision of engineering and project management skills. The role will also support consistent delivery of facilities, engineering service and engineering compliance for those EHS critical systems in scope of Process Safety in working closely with the site operations team, capital projects and service partner organizations.

    This role will foster a culture of transparency and trust with operations teams, service partners and customers with being present a minimum of 4 days on site per week.

    In this role you will:

    Qualifications & Skills:

    We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

    • Holds a degree in Engineering (preferred Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical)
    • Experience with Process Safety Management supporting hazard identifications (HAZID), process hazard analysis (PHA), hierarchy of controls or safety integrity level (SIL).
    • Experience in engineering or operations in the pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or other large, regulated industry.
    • Experience in technical engineering related to mechanical, electrical, and/or process engineering infrastructure systems.

    Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

    If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

    • Displays knowledge of the Research & Development process and understands GxP requirements.
    • Ability to understand and apply engineering principles and standards to a site.
    • Ability to establish strong working relationships with key external contract partners, to deliver appropriate site services in agreement with established contracts.
    • Strong ability to act as a motivator of change.
    • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and persuasive skills to successfully interact with managers at all levels and the ability to manage internal relations with site customer base.
