    Hybrid Working

    Job description

    Site Reliability Engineer

    Salary : £53,613 to £59,570

    Location: London

    Hours: Full time

Working Pattern: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least 2 days per week or 40% of our time in our London office.

    About this Opportunity

Our Digital channels are at the heart of the Bank, servicing over 80% of our customers interactions with us. We're transforming our ways of working, putting our customers at the heart of what we do, using great technology to provide an excellent customer experience.

Our Digital Channels are under-going major surgery as we re-architect our technology into a modern, cloud agnostic, micro service-based platform. This is a fantastic opportunity help shape our capability as we build a new team to support and operate this new platform. Whilst that exciting new stuff gets built and delivered, we still have a huge responsibility to run our existing platforms and you'll play a major role in providing a great service to our customers.

    Here's where you'll make a difference

As a member of our SRE team, your main responsibilities will be to work alongside our 24x7 shift teams, using tooling such as Dynatrace, Splunk and ThousandEyes to ensure we maintain great observability across our services, and to contribute to quick service recovery for our customers.

    • You'll help define and implement Service Level Objectives and assist in automating Operational Readiness into CI/CD pipelines so that our engineering teams can be confident in delivering fault-tolerant, reliable and robust features to our customers.
    • You'll also play a key role in contributing to blameless post mortems, ensuring we understand underlying root causes and drive through software solutions and automation to prevent recurrence and remove manual work.
    • You'll provide technical direction and mentorship to our support engineering teams, helping them to manage business critical applications that underpin billions of pounds worth of payments every day.
    • You'll have a strong sense of ownership and integrity and enjoy working with both Business and Engineering teams.

    What you'll need

This is a technical role, so naturally, we're looking for people with experience of the technologies we currently use and will use in the future.

    • A good grasp of the key concepts of Site Reliability Engineering
    • Knowledge of cloud platforms using Kubernetes and related technologies.
    • Knowledge of, and experience of working with following technologies:
    • Dynatrace, Splunk, GitHub
    • IBM Websphere Application Server, WAS Liberty and related technologies.
    • IBM Datapower and APIC
    • Red Hat Linux / AIX.
    • You'll be able to work independently, use initiative, without management oversight.
    • Work with partner teams and third parties in the UK, and worldwide.
    • A passion to automate everything, everywhere!

With that out of the way, and obviously those techy skills are important, perhaps of more importance is what else you can bring to the party. A great problem solver, curiosity, someone who can work under their own initiative, but loves collaborating across teams. Someone who will challenge the status quo, not afraid to speak up and give their opinions. Someone who shares our values and shares their skills and knowledge to help others grow.

    About working for us

Our focus is to ensure that we're inclusive every day, building an organisation that reflects modern society and celebrates diversity in all its forms.

We want our people to feel that they belong and can be their best, regardless of background identity or culture.

And it's why we especially welcome applications from under-represented groups.

We're disability confident. So, if you'd like reasonable adjustments to be made to our recruitment processes. Just let us know.

We also offer a wide-ranging benefits package, which includes:

    • A generous pension contribution of up to 15%
    • An annual performance-related bonus
    • Share schemes including free shares
    • Benefits you can adapt to your lifestyle, such as discounted shopping
    • 28 days holiday with bank holidays on top
    • A range of wellbeing initiatives and generous parental leave policies
